Bihar– Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary jointly inaugurated seven new trains for Bihar on 29 September 2025. The launch includes three Amrit Bharat Express trains and four passenger services, giving Bihar a total of 26 Amrit Bharat Express services out of 30 nationwide.

The newly introduced Amrit Bharat Express routes are Darbhanga–Ajmer (Madar), Muzaffarpur–Hyderabad (Charlapalli), and Chhapra–Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal). These trains link Bihar to Telangana, Rajasthan, and the national capital, ensuring faster, safer, and more comfortable journeys. Four additional passenger trains—Patna–Buxar, Jhajha–Danapur, Nawada–Patna, and Patna–Islampur—will further improve travel within the state.

Speaking via video conference, Vaishnaw highlighted that Bihar’s annual railway budget has surged from around ₹1,000 crore before 2014 to approximately ₹10,000 crore in 2025, with projects worth about ₹1 lakh crore underway. He noted that the entire state railway network is now electrified and that 1,899 km of new track has been laid over the past decade.

The indigenously developed Amrit Bharat Express embodies Indian Railways’ modernisation drive. Equipped with semi-automatic couplers, fire-detection systems, sealed gangways, and talk-back units, the train introduces these safety features for the first time in non-AC coaches.

Twenty-one significant railway works have been fully commissioned in Bihar since 2014. Highlights include the Patna and Munger rail-cum-road bridges, the Kosi Bridge, and new or converted lines such as Daniawan–Biharsharif, Chandan–Banka, and multiple gauge-conversion and doubling projects across the state. The Araria–Galgalhia (Thakurganj) new line is ready and awaiting formal inauguration.

Current projects cover new lines such as Sakri–Hasanpur, Hajipur–Sugauli, Chhapra–Muzaffarpur, and Vikramsihla–Katareah (with a Ganga bridge), along with extensive third- and fourth-line works on routes including Samastipur–Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur–Sagauli, and Katihar–Kumedpur. Planning for additional projects is already in progress.

With 13 Amrit Bharat Express trains (26 services) and 10 pairs of Vande Bharat services already operating across the state, the new trains will enhance tourism, trade, and employment while providing passengers with safer and faster travel options. Vaishnaw described these initiatives as a vital step toward the vision of Viksit Bihar Se Viksit Bharat—a developed India through a developed Bihar.
