Vadodara– Union Minister for Railways, Communications, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, visited the Alstom factory at Savli, Vadodara, as part of his ongoing review of industrial and railway-related infrastructure in Gujarat.
He was accompanied by Dr. Hemang Joshi, Member of Parliament from Vadodara; Ketan Inamdar, Member of Legislative Assembly from Savli; Vivek Kumar Gupta, General Manager of Western Railway; the Divisional Railway Manager of Vadodara; and other senior railway officials.
During his visit, the minister toured the factory premises and interacted with the officials and staff. In a detailed meeting with the Alstom management, he was briefed on the company’s key operational areas—ranging from material usage and design innovation to talent development and customer satisfaction strategies.

Particular emphasis was placed on Alstom’s commitment to the ‘Designed in India’ initiative. Officials shared that coaches, locomotives, bogies, propulsion systems, and other components manufactured at the Savli unit are being exported to countries including Australia, the UK, France, Germany, Canada, and Mexico. This global outreach is a part of Alstom’s ‘Design, Develop, Deliver from India to the World’ initiative.
The minister also took keen interest in Alstom’s adoption of sensor-based predictive maintenance powered by artificial intelligence (AI). He encouraged further development of such technologies to strengthen Indian Railways’ operational efficiency.
Vaishnaw lauded Alstom’s existing training partnership with Western Railway’s Vadodara Division and recommended expanding this collaboration by integrating with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV). He further advised that General Managers of all production units across Indian Railways should visit the Savli facility for training and exposure.

Following the visit, the minister also interacted with media representatives and shared his vision for strengthening India’s railway manufacturing ecosystem and global competitiveness.
