Shamli :Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Minister of State (I/C) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Jayant Chaudhary, flagged off two new Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train services between Delhi and Shamli at Baraut Railway Station today.

The newly launched MEMU services—Delhi Junction–Shamli–Delhi Junction and Delhi Shahdara–Shamli–Delhi Shahdara—are expected to significantly benefit daily passengers, students, farmers, and working professionals of the region.

Addressing a large gathering, Vaishnaw said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Railways is continuously enhancing passenger services and creating modern rail infrastructure. He noted that a long-pending demand of the Shamli–Baghpat region had finally been fulfilled through these train services, which will ease daily travel and improve last-mile connectivity.

Vaishnaw also announced a major infrastructural upgrade — the doubling of the Delhi–Shamli rail section, which was met with loud applause from local residents and public representatives. He further informed that Shamli railway station is being redeveloped under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ at a cost of ₹25 crore, transforming it into a modern, world-class facility.
Highlighting the dramatic improvement in Uttar Pradesh’s railway infrastructure after 2014, the Union Minister shared that:
5,272 km of new tracks have been constructed — equivalent to the entire rail network of Switzerland
The state’s railway network has achieved 100% electrification
1,460 flyovers and road underbridges have been built
154 lifts and 156 escalators installed for passenger convenience
Wi-Fi is now available at 771 stations
34 Vande Bharat Express and 26 Amrit Bharat Express trains currently operate in the state

Public representatives including Baghpat MP Rajkumar Sangwan, former MP Dr. Satyapal Singh, MLC Mohit Beniwal, MLA Krishan Pal Malik, and Baghpat Nagar Palika Chairperson Babita Tomar attended the event and expressed gratitude for the long-awaited rail developments.
