President Murmu to Embark on Official Visits to Portugal and Slovakia

New Delhi, April,2, 2025 – President Droupadi Murmu is set to embark on official visits to Portugal and Slovakia from April 7-10, aimed at strengthening India’s diplomatic and economic partnerships with both European nations.

Her visit to Portugal, scheduled from April 7-8, is at the invitation of President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. This marks the first visit by an Indian President to Portugal in 27 years, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The last such visit was in 1998, when President K. R. Narayanan traveled to Portugal.

During her visit, President Murmu will engage in delegation-level discussions with President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and hold meetings with Prime Minister Luis Montenegro and National Assembly President José Pedro Aguiar-Branco. India and Portugal share historical and evolving bilateral ties, which have transformed into a modern, dynamic partnership, witnessing growth across diverse sectors. This visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to their expanding cooperation.

Following Portugal, President Murmu will travel to Slovakia from April 9-10, at the invitation of President Peter Pellegrini. This marks the first visit by an Indian President to Slovakia in 29 years.

In Slovakia, she will conduct bilateral discussions with President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico, while also meeting National Council Speaker Richard Rasi. The visit highlights India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Slovakia and exploring new avenues of collaboration.

At both destinations, President Murmu will interact with members of the Indian community, emphasizing India’s global outreach and people-to-people connections. Her visit is expected to enhance economic, technological, and cultural partnerships between India and these two European nations.
