San Francisco/New Delhi, Feb 28,2025 : The family of Neelam Shinde, an Indian student admitted to UC Davis Hospital near Sacramento, California, in critical condition following a car accident, has been granted a visa by the US to visit her.
Her father, Tanaji Shinde, stated that they secured an emergency visa with the support of the Maharashtra government and will be traveling to the US to be by Neelam’s side.
Neelam Shinde, 35, a student at California State University, was involved in a severe car accident on February 14 and was hospitalized in critical condition. She is currently in a coma at UC Davis Hospital.
Hailing from Satara in Maharashtra, her case has drawn significant attention. The Indian consulate in San Francisco posted on X, affirming that they have been in constant communication with the hospital, family, and friends, providing all possible assistance.
“We express our sympathy and solidarity with the family of Neelam Shinde, a victim of a serious road accident in California on February 14, currently admitted to UC Davis Health Hospital near Sacramento.
@cgisfo has been in continuous contact with the hospital, family, and friends over the past several days, extending all possible support. We will continue to stay engaged in assisting her and her family.”
NCP Member of Parliament Supriya Sule highlighted the matter on social media, urging the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene and provide necessary assistance.
Sule posted on X: “Student Neelam Shinde has been in an accident in the USA and is hospitalized. Her father, Tanaji Shinde, from Satara, Maharashtra, India, urgently needs to visit his daughter due to a medical emergency. He has applied for an emergency visa to the USA and requires assistance.
