Earlier in the day, Alrakoba newspaper reported that a military plane had gone down near Omdurman, resulting in the deaths of both crew members and officers on board. The Sudanese Army later verified the tragic incident.
According to Al Sudani newspaper, the Antonov military aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from the Wadi Seidna airbase. Among the 19 fatalities were military personnel and civilians, marking a devastating loss.
Among those killed was Bahar Ahmed Bahar, the commander of operations in the Bahri region, as per media reports.

This incident comes amid ongoing conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the regular Sudanese Army, who have been engaged in a fierce battle for control of Sudan since April 2023. The prolonged fighting has severely impacted the nation, with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warning of a potential collapse of the healthcare system.
In a recent interview with Sputnik on January 4, Sudanese Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Siraj, expressed hope that the ongoing armed conflict in the country could come to an end by 2025.
As investigations into the cause of the crash continue, the tragedy adds to the growing concerns over Sudan’s instability and ongoing crisis.
