Vietnam PM Pham Minh Chinh to Meet Major Indian Business Leaders During State Visit

First Vietnamese Prime Minister Visit to India in a Decade

New Delhi, Jul 31 2024 : Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, on a three-day state visit to India, is scheduled to meet prominent leaders from major Indian conglomerates today. Among those he will engage with are Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group; Dharmesh Shah, Founder and Chairman of BDR Pharmaceuticals; and Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman of ONGC.

This marks PM Chinh’s first state visit to India as the head of the Vietnamese government, and it is the first visit by a Vietnamese Prime Minister to India in ten years. During his visit, Chinh will address the Vietnam-India Business Forum, announce a new Da Nang-Ahmedabad flight, and welcome Vietjet Air’s 200 millionth passenger.

The Prime Minister will also lay flowers at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh, inaugurate the new Vietnamese Embassy headquarters in India, and meet with embassy staff and the Vietnamese community.

On August 1, Chinh will receive an official welcome ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, followed by discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They will witness the signing of new cooperation agreements between the two nations, aimed at strengthening traditional ties and exploring new fields such as electronics, telecommunications, biotechnology, renewable energy, and AI.

Since the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016, India and Vietnam have seen significant progress in their relationship. Bilateral trade has surged to nearly $15 billion in 2023, with both countries exploring investment opportunities in various sectors, including infrastructure and renewable energy.

The visit highlights the continued positive development in the partnership, including advancements in defense, trade, and investment. Additionally, Vietnamese automaker Vinfast is constructing a $2 billion car assembly plant in Tamil Nadu, further deepening economic ties.

The Vietnamese PM arrived in Delhi late yesterday and was welcomed by Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that the visit will further strengthen the longstanding friendship between India and Vietnam.
