New Delhi, August 5, 2024: Filmmaker Farah Khan has publicly mourned the death of her mother, Menka Irani, who passed away on July 26. Following her mother’s passing, Khan had largely withdrawn from the public eye and social media. However, on Monday, she shared a poignant tribute on Instagram, featuring a series of throwback photos with her late mother.
In her emotional message, Khan described her mother as “a very unique person” who shunned the limelight and held no bitterness despite facing numerous challenges. Khan reminisced about her mother’s humor, stating, “Everyone who met her loved her and realized where we get our sense of humor from.” She acknowledged her mother’s superior wit compared to herself and her brother Sajid Khan.
Khan expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from friends, family, and her mother’s colleagues, many of whom remembered her kindness and generosity. She thanked those who visited, messaged, and offered condolences, as well as the medical staff at Nanavati Hospital and other institutions who provided care.
Concluding her tribute, Khan spoke of her resolve to return to work, honoring her mother’s pride in her professional achievements. She chose to focus on celebrating her mother’s life rather than dwelling on grief. Khan also shared that her mother’s favorite song by Don Williams was playing, reflecting on her mother’s likely amusement at her choice.
