New Delhi, March 21, 2025: The Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Shri Vijender Gupta, delivered an inspiring address at the 5th Shaheed Sukhdev Memorial Lecture at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSCBS), Delhi University. Speaking on the theme “Legacy of Martyrs, Impact of Youth Power – Building a Developed India,” Shri Gupta emphasized that the youth of India have a crucial role in shaping the nation’s future and must draw inspiration from the sacrifices of legendary revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru.
Shri Gupta began his speech by reminding students that the freedom they enjoy today was earned through the sacrifices of countless martyrs. “Our martyrs’ legacy is not just to be read in history books; it serves as a guiding force for the future. Their courage, determination, and love for the nation must continue to inspire us,” he stated. He emphasized that their ideals should be imbibed by the youth to drive India towards greater progress and development.
During his speech, Shri Gupta highlighted the Indian government’s continuous efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to honor the nation’s heroes. He referred to memorials such as the National War Memorial, National Police Memorial, Jallianwala Bagh Memorial, and the Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“These memorials are more than structures; they are a testament to our gratitude towards our martyrs. They ensure that future generations never forget the sacrifices made for India’s independence,” Shri Gupta remarked.
He also discussed how the government has introduced educational and cultural programs in schools and universities to instill patriotism in young minds. He urged institutions to conduct regular seminars and events to educate students about India’s rich history of sacrifice and valor.
Shri Gupta further spoke about India’s rapid economic and technological progress, emphasizing the critical role young innovators and entrepreneurs are playing in shaping a New India.
He noted that India has now become the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, with over 1.6 lakh startups generating nearly 18 lakh direct employment opportunities. “These are not just numbers; they reflect the ambition and dedication of India’s youth,” he said.
He also highlighted the government’s ‘India AI Mission,’ under which ₹10,300 crore has been invested to establish India as a global leader in artificial intelligence. He remarked, “Today, India is at the forefront of AI computing infrastructure, and our young minds are driving this technological revolution.”
Shri Gupta expressed confidence that with the right guidance, support, and motivation, India’s youth can push the country to unprecedented heights in innovation, economic growth, and global leadership.
Encouraging students to take charge of India’s future, Shri Gupta said, “The power to shape India’s destiny lies in your hands. Our martyrs had dreams of a free and prosperous India. It is now your responsibility to turn that dream into reality.”
He urged students to actively participate in nation-building by engaging in social, economic, and technological advancements. “Whether through entrepreneurship, scientific research, governance, or social activism, the youth can bring about transformative changes in the country,” he added.
Shri Gupta also underscored the importance of integrity and self-discipline in achieving success. He encouraged students to take inspiration from historical figures and strive for excellence in their respective fields.
The event was graced by several eminent personalities, including Prof. Balaram Pani (Dean, Colleges, DU), Prof. Poonam Verma (Principal, SSCBS), Prof. Gunjan Gupta (Chairperson, College Governing Body), and Prof. Anupam Jha (Treasurer, College Governing Body).
