New Delhi, September 28: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal will visit the United States from September 29 to October 5, 2026, to participate in the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting and hold discussions with American industry leaders, investors and the startup community.
Goyal will attend the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 30 and October 1 at the invitation of the US Trade Representative. The meeting will bring together trade ministers from G20 member countries to discuss issues related to international trade.
India is expected to engage with G20 members on strengthening a rules-based, open, inclusive, transparent and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organization at its core. India will also emphasise the need to preserve adequate policy space for developing countries.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Goyal will hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts. The engagements will focus on expanding opportunities for farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs, startups, MSMEs and other businesses.
India-US Trade Agreement Talks
During his US visit, Goyal will also meet his American counterpart as part of ongoing efforts to advance a balanced and mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
The discussions will also cover efforts to finalise an interim trade deal in line with the Joint Statement issued on February 7, 2026.
Meetings With American Businesses
In Milwaukee and Chicago, Goyal is scheduled to meet chief executives of leading US companies from sectors including manufacturing, consumer goods, agribusiness, retail and technology.
He will also participate in roundtable discussions with businesses, startups and innovative companies, where he is expected to highlight investment and manufacturing opportunities available in India.
The Minister will invite American companies to deepen partnerships with Indian enterprises and explore opportunities across India’s growing industrial and technology ecosystem.
Engagements With Indian Community
During his stay in Chicago, Goyal will pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti and Swami Vivekananda. He will also interact with professional associations representing the Indian community.
The visit is expected to further India’s trade and investment engagement with the United States and strengthen its economic engagement with fellow G20 partners.
