Delhi University Drops Delhi Sultanate Paper From Revised PG History Syllabus
Delhi University’s revised postgraduate History syllabus leaves out the specialised Delhi Sultanate paper and another course on North India.
The Impressive TimesNew Delhi, August 14, 2026; The University of Delhi has omitted a specialised paper on the Delhi Sultanate from its newly revised postgraduate History syllabus, according to reports.
The course, earlier listed for Semester III under the title “The Delhi Sultanate: Structures of Authority in Medieval North India (13th–14th Centuries),” focused on the political and institutional history of medieval North India.
The paper examined the formation and functioning of the medieval state, changing patterns of political authority and the mechanisms through which power was exercised during the 13th and 14th centuries. It also addressed the religious, social and cultural developments associated with the period.
The decision to drop the paper has drawn attention because of its specialised focus on one of the important phases of medieval Indian history.
The revised syllabus has also reportedly excluded another postgraduate paper, “History of North India, c. 1400–1550,” from Semester III.
The changes come as the university updates its postgraduate History curriculum, with the revised structure altering the range of specialised papers available to students studying medieval Indian history.
