Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 Gets CBFC Clearance Without Cuts Ahead of Release

Mumbai, July 23: Sunny Deol-starrer Batwara 1947 has reportedly received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts, paving the way for its theatrical release on August 14.

According to reports, the historical drama has been awarded a censor certificate with no modifications, allowing the film to release as planned. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film explores the human impact of the 1947 Partition through an emotional story centred on identity, coexistence and hope.

Inspired by acclaimed playwright Asghar Wajahat’s celebrated play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, the film follows a migrant Muslim family that settles in an abandoned Hindu house in Lahore after Partition. Their lives take an unexpected turn when an elderly Hindu woman refuses to leave the home she considers her own, leading to an emotional narrative about humanity beyond religious divides.

Sunny Deol plays the head of the migrant family, while veteran actor Shabana Azmi portrays the elderly woman who remains in her ancestral home despite the upheaval of Partition. The film highlights relationships forged amid one of the most difficult chapters in Indian history.

The makers recently unveiled a new poster confirming the film’s release on August 14, coinciding with Partition Day. The poster features an idol of Lord Krishna alongside a lit lamp, symbolising faith and resilience against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition.

Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 features an ensemble cast including Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur. The film also marks Preity Zinta’s return to the big screen after a gap of several years.
