Twisha Sharma Death Case: Court Grants Seven-Day Police Custody of Husband Samarth Singh

The Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second autopsy, while the state government recommended a CBI investigation into the alleged dowry death case.

Bhopal, May 23, 2026: The investigation into the death of former model and actor Twisha Sharma took a significant turn on Saturday after a Bhopal court remanded her husband, Samarth Singh, to seven days of police custody for questioning.

Singh, who has been named as the primary accused in the case, was produced before the court following medical examination procedures. Investigators had sought custodial interrogation to examine various aspects of the case and gather further evidence.

The development comes amid growing scrutiny of the investigation and increasing demands from Sharma’s family for a comprehensive probe. The family has welcomed the decision to transfer the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), describing it as a positive step toward ensuring an impartial inquiry.

Meanwhile, a four-member forensic team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS Delhi) has been constituted to conduct a second autopsy. The expert panel is expected to travel to Bhopal to carry out the examination following directions issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

During a press briefing, Bhopal Police officials confirmed that Singh had been brought to the city for questioning and that investigators would use the remand period to examine evidence and clarify key aspects of the case. Authorities also stated that legal action could be initiated against any individual found to have assisted the accused while he was allegedly evading investigators.

The case has attracted widespread attention after Sharma was found dead at her marital residence in Bhopal earlier this month. While her family has alleged dowry harassment and foul play, the accused side has denied wrongdoing. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not reached any final conclusions regarding the circumstances of her death.

The victim’s family has also sought transparency in the fresh post-mortem examination and expressed hope that the CBI probe will help establish the facts surrounding the case.
