New Delhi, May 13, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly reduced the size of his official convoy, according to sources, shortly after his public appeal urging citizens and government departments to conserve fuel amid global energy pressures.
The decision is being viewed as an effort to personally reflect the austerity message he recently communicated, which called for reduced fuel usage and more responsible consumption patterns during the ongoing West Asia related energy concerns.
According to official inputs, the reduction in convoy size has been implemented during recent domestic visits while ensuring that all mandatory security protocols under the Special Protection Group framework remain intact. Authorities clarified that essential security arrangements have not been compromised.
The move comes as part of a broader push by the government to encourage fuel saving measures across administrative systems. The Prime Minister has also reportedly encouraged the inclusion of electric vehicles in official fleets wherever feasible, without new procurement of vehicles.
Officials indicated that the scaled down convoy arrangement is expected to serve as an example for other public offices and state leaders to follow similar cost and fuel efficient practices.
The development follows a series of appeals by the Prime Minister asking for reduced dependency on fuel intensive travel and greater adoption of sustainable practices during the current energy situation.
