Delhi: Two men suspected of having links to an organised crime network were arrested in Delhi’s Dwarka following a brief exchange of fire with police during an early morning operation on Sunday, officials said.
According to police, the suspects were intercepted by the Anti-Auto Theft Squad near Urban Extension Road based on specific intelligence inputs. Investigators said the two men were wanted in connection with a recent attempted murder case and were believed to be associated with a gang involved in targeting rivals.
Police alleged the duo had been linked to a firing incident in Shyam Vihar Phase-2, where armed assailants allegedly tried to attack a businessman. Authorities said the attempt failed after a weapon reportedly malfunctioned, allowing the intended target to escape.
During Sunday’s operation, police said one of the suspects allegedly fired at the team when asked to surrender. Officials claimed a bullet struck a constable’s protective gear, after which police responded in self-defence. One suspect was injured during the encounter and later taken for medical treatment, while the second was detained at the scene.
Authorities said firearms, ammunition and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime were recovered during the operation. A separate case has been registered over the exchange of fire, while investigators continue to examine the suspects’ alleged criminal links and possible involvement in other cases.
Police said further investigation is underway.
