Gurugram, April 6, 2026: Sportswear brand ASICS successfully hosted the first-ever Ekiden India 2026, a team relay marathon, in Gurugram, drawing enthusiastic participation from professional athletes, corporate teams, and running enthusiasts across the country.
The Ekiden format, originating in Japan, emphasizes teamwork and endurance, with teams of six runners covering different legs of the total marathon distance. Organizers noted that the event’s primary aim was to promote long-distance running and strengthen community engagement in the sport.
The event witnessed over 1,500 participants across multiple categories, including elite, corporate, and amateur teams. Special emphasis was given to safety protocols, hydration stations, and medical support to ensure smooth conduct of the race.
Winners of the inaugural edition were awarded trophies, medals, and ASICS merchandise, while all participants received commemorative kits celebrating the first-ever Ekiden relay in India.
Event director Rajeev Mehta highlighted that Ekiden India 2026 not only promotes physical fitness but also teamwork, collaboration, and sportsmanship among participants from diverse backgrounds.
The relay also featured interactive zones, fitness workshops, and photo opportunities, attracting families and running enthusiasts to engage with the sport beyond competition.
ASICS representatives expressed delight at the positive response and hinted at plans to make Ekiden India an annual fixture on the country’s running calendar.
