Dehradun November 7- President Droupadi Murmu graced and addressed the 35th convocation of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture & Technology in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand.
In her speech, the President emphasized the university’s pivotal role in agricultural education and sector development since its establishment. Spread across 11,000 acres, it stands as one of the world’s largest universities. She recalled the significant contribution of Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug, who named Pantnagar University as the ‘Harbinger of Green Revolution,’ highlighting its crucial role in the success of the green revolution.
The President stressed the importance of disseminating agricultural research to benefit farmers and lauded the university’s efforts in providing climate-resilient technologies to rural communities.
She called for educational institutions to produce graduates capable of competing in the technology-driven world, emphasizing the need to keep pace with global technological, economic, and social developments.
With a focus on natural and organic farming to address climate change and soil degradation, the President highlighted the university’s potential to prioritize millets in food habits, promoting eco-friendly choices.
Recognizing the importance of technology in tackling global challenges, she commended the university for its initiatives in digital solutions for agriculture, including crop management, nano-technology, organic farming, and Artificial Intelligence. Notably, the university has developed its own agricultural drone, which is expected to benefit farmers in the near future.
