New Delhi : A brief security scare unfolded at the New Delhi Railway Station—one of the capital’s busiest transport hubs—on Saturday morning after an unattended bag was found on the premises. The discovery led to panic among passengers and prompted an immediate response from security and emergency agencies.
According to officials, the alert was received around 7:55 am, when passengers noticed a suspicious bag lying unclaimed in one of the station’s busy areas. The sight of the unattended luggage triggered anxiety, especially amid heightened security across the national capital in the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, and Railway Protection Force (RPF) were immediately informed. A team of bomb disposal experts and a dog squad rushed to the scene, and the area was quickly cordoned off to ensure the safety of commuters and station staff. Passengers and bystanders were moved to a safe distance as a precautionary measure.
Following standard operating procedures, the bomb disposal squad carefully inspected the bag. After a thorough examination, the bag was declared non-threatening, as no explosive or hazardous materials were found inside. Authorities have taken custody of the bag for further analysis, and efforts are underway to identify its owner through CCTV footage and witness accounts.
A senior police officer confirmed that the response was part of the city’s heightened security preparedness, especially at high-footfall locations like railway stations, airports, and markets. “In the current security environment, we are maintaining a state of high alert. Any suspicious object is treated with utmost seriousness,” he said.
While normal operations at the station were temporarily affected, train services were not significantly disrupted. The situation was brought under control within an hour, and station activities resumed after the area was deemed safe.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for vigilance in public places, particularly in light of increased security concerns across major Indian cities. Authorities have urged the public to report any unattended items immediately and cooperate with security personnel during checks and inspections.
