Delhi Markets Closed in Pahalgam Attack Tribute

New Delhi :  In a powerful show of solidarity and national mourning, several prominent markets across the National Capital are observing a complete shutdown today in response to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which represents millions of traders across India, called for a bandh, urging all traders in Delhi to keep their shops and establishments closed as a mark of tribute to the lives lost in the attack.

According to CAIT, more than 900 markets across Delhi are participating in the shutdown. Leading trade associations from across the city have extended their support to the call, turning it into a massive and largely voluntary movement. This includes key commercial hubs like Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh, Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, Kamla Nagar, and Sarojini Nagar, among others.

CAIT Secretary General and BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal, while addressing the media in New Delhi, emphasized that the bandh is not a political protest but a symbolic gesture of tribute and national unity. “This bandh is our way of expressing collective grief and respect for those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack. It is a reflection of our commitment to stand united against terrorism,” he said.

He further appealed to all traders and market associations to observe the bandh peacefully and take adequate precautions to ensure law and order is maintained. “We urge all shopkeepers to participate voluntarily and respectfully. No forced closures should take place. The aim is to send a strong and united message against terrorism, while paying homage to the brave souls we lost,” Khandelwal added.

Reports from across the capital indicate that the call for the shutdown has been met with overwhelming support. Most shops remain shuttered, and foot traffic in major markets is significantly reduced. Security personnel have been deployed at several key locations to maintain peace and ensure that the bandh is conducted without any untoward incident.
