Weather Alert: Heatwave Grips Rajasthan, Humidity Soars in Maharashtra

New Delhi : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for parts of Rajasthan, with daytime temperatures expected to soar above normal levels today. Residents in several districts of the state have been advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, as conditions are likely to remain harsh throughout the day.

According to the IMD, the heatwave is being driven by dry northwesterly winds and clear skies, which are contributing to a sharp rise in maximum temperatures. The alert covers western and some central parts of Rajasthan, where mercury levels may cross 45°C in isolated pockets.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra is expected to experience hot and humid weather over the next two to three days. The IMD has predicted that regions including Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada will see elevated humidity levels combined with high temperatures, creating discomfort for residents.

“The combination of high temperatures and moisture in the air is likely to result in sultry conditions, particularly during the daytime. People are advised to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours,” the IMD stated in its bulletin.

In addition to heat-related alerts, the IMD has forecast rainfall and thunderstorms in several parts of the country. Isolated to scattered rainfall, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, is likely over northeastern states such as Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. Similar weather activity may also occur in parts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

The pre-monsoon activity, while bringing some relief from rising temperatures in southern and eastern regions, is also expected to be accompanied by strong winds in certain areas. Coastal and hilly districts are being monitored for potential disruptions due to localized storms.

In Delhi and surrounding NCR areas, the weather is expected to remain dry with moderate heat, though no official heatwave alert has been issued for the region.

With summer conditions intensifying, the IMD has urged people, especially the elderly, children, and outdoor workers, to take appropriate precautions. Health advisories have also been issued in heatwave-affected regions, advising limited outdoor exposure, increased fluid intake, and use of protective gear like hats and umbrellas.
