Robert Vadra Under ED Scanner Again Over Haryana Land Deal

Gurugram : Businessman Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday in connection with an ongoing money-laundering investigation related to a land deal in Haryana’s Shikhopur area. This marks the second time the ED has summoned Vadra in the case.

In a symbolic gesture, Vadra walked on foot from his residence to the ED office, flanked by supporters and media personnel. The land deal under investigation reportedly pertains to the purchase and sale of land parcels in Gurugram, with allegations of irregularities, shell companies, and unlawful gains made through money-laundering mechanisms.

Speaking to reporters before entering the ED office, Vadra said the summons were yet another attempt to suppress his voice through political intimidation. “Whenever I will speak up for people and make them heard, they will try to suppress me… I have always given all answers and continue to do so,” he stated.

Calling the probe a case of “political vendetta,” Vadra suggested that such legal action against him intensifies whenever he expresses public opinions or stands with the opposition. “This is not the first time I’ve faced such scrutiny. I’ve always cooperated with agencies and will continue to do so, but it’s clear this is a pattern—targeting me when elections are near or when I raise issues concerning the people,” he added.

The Enforcement Directorate, on the other hand, is pursuing the case based on alleged violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency suspects that the Shikhopur land deal involved the use of black money and that the property was acquired through benami transactions or shell companies.

Officials have not released further details of Vadra’s questioning, but sources indicate that the ED is examining financial trails, property ownership documents, and links to previously investigated cases involving Vadra’s business associates.

The Congress party has consistently defended Vadra, alleging that the repeated summons and investigations are a part of the ruling BJP’s strategy to divert attention from pressing issues and tarnish the image of the Gandhi family.
