Telangana CM Issues Alert as Heavy Rains Batter Hyderabad

Hyderabad : Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds battered Hyderabad and parts of Telangana on Thursday, causing waterlogging, power outages, and disruptions in several low-lying areas. The sudden downpour led to a swift response from the state administration, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy instructing officials to remain on high alert and take all precautionary measures to ensure public safety and minimize inconvenience.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for seamless coordination among all departments to manage the unfolding situation. He directed officials to prioritize the needs of people residing in vulnerable areas, particularly those living in low-lying colonies that were inundated due to water accumulation. Visuals from across Hyderabad showed flooded roads, stalled vehicles, and disrupted traffic as rainwater gushed into homes and commercial areas in several neighborhoods.

CM Reddy chaired a high-level review and instructed district collectors, municipal officials, police, and disaster response teams to stay vigilant and act promptly to address emergencies. He urged civic bodies to clear water stagnation points swiftly and work closely with the power and transport departments to restore normalcy.

The Southern Telangana Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) reported that power supply had been affected in multiple areas following the storm. However, officials confirmed that restoration efforts had been completed across all impacted feeders. Quick deployment of field teams ensured that electricity was brought back in record time, minimizing prolonged outages.

Meanwhile, traffic movement in parts of the city, including areas like Begumpet, Kukatpally, and Mehdipatnam, was severely impacted. Commuters faced long delays, and emergency services were deployed to manage congestion and assist stranded motorists. Local authorities also advised residents to remain indoors unless necessary and avoid waterlogged stretches.

Weather officials indicated that the rains were caused by active monsoon conditions intensified by localized cyclonic circulation. Forecasts suggest more intermittent showers over the next 48 hours, prompting authorities to maintain a state of readiness.

Citizens have been urged to report emergencies via helpline numbers issued by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which has activated monsoon control rooms in key zones across the city.

As the city grapples with the aftermath of the downpour, the government has assured residents of all necessary support and swift action to tackle any further challenges that may arise due to continued rainfall.
