Raipur 11 March 2024- Smt. Kaushalya Sai, wife of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, celebrated her birthday in a heartwarming manner by organizing a ‘Nyota Bhoj’ at Sardar Pritam Singh Saini Primary and Pre-Secondary School, Shyamnagar, and Government Girls Home, Khamhardih. Personally preparing and serving kheer and cake, she shared affection and joy with the children present.
In response to the children’s appreciation of her culinary skills, Smt. Sai expressed her delight, saying, “We always make kheer on our birthdays. My children also love Kheer. You all are lovely children, so today I have prepared kheer for you on my birthday.”
Engaging with the children about their studies and playful antics, she also held discussions with school teachers regarding the children’s education. Explaining the concept of Nyota Bhoj, Smt. Sai mentioned, “Chief Minister Shri Sai had told me about Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s ‘Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman Abhiyan’. Under this campaign, everyone is urged to celebrate their birthdays and special occasions with school children, feeding and sharing the meal with them.”
Reflecting on the significance of Nyota Bhoj, she described it as a “beautiful” tradition that offers the chance to connect with young children. “Children eat the dish with huge smiles on their faces, which is a delight to the eyes,” she stated.
Meanwhile, following the call from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, various public representatives, officials, and esteemed citizens in Chhattisgarh have been actively hosting ‘Nyota Bhojs’.
The tradition of serving kheer on auspicious occasions is linked to the Vedas
In Indian and Chhattisgarh traditions, kheer holds a special place as a customary birthday treat, symbolizing spreading happiness among loved ones. This tradition, deeply rooted in our ‘Sanatan’ customs, extends beyond birthdays; sweets are offered on auspicious occasions as well. Dating back to the Vedic period, this practice has been an integral part of our culture. Described as ‘Kshira Pakamodanam’ in the Vedas, kheer carries significant importance in our culture.
