UP Judicial Commission to Investigate Mahakumbh Incident at Sangam Ghat

Prayagraj : The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a judicial commission to investigate the tragic Mahakumbh incident that resulted in the loss of 30 lives. The three-member commission, headed by retired Allahabad High Court Judge Harsh Kumar, is set to visit Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj today as part of its investigation into the incident. The commission’s primary objective is to understand the causes and circumstances surrounding the tragedy and to propose measures that could prevent similar incidents in the future. They are expected to submit their findings within a month.

The tragic event occurred during the Mahakumbh, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. The loss of life has raised concerns about the safety protocols and crowd management during such massive events. The judicial commission’s investigation is seen as a crucial step toward ensuring that future gatherings of this magnitude are handled with the utmost safety and preparedness. The commission will also examine whether there were lapses in planning and execution that contributed to the incident.

Ahead of the commission’s visit, Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar visited Sangam Ghat on Tuesday to inspect the incident site. During their visit, they urged the administration to remain focused and adopt a “build-it-better” approach. The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of flawless arrangements for the upcoming Amrit Snan, a key ritual that will see large crowds gather at the Ghat in the coming weeks. The officials stressed that zero errors in planning and execution are essential to ensure public safety and avoid further tragedies.

The high-ranking officials also highlighted the need for increased manpower and resources to ensure safety during the Amrit Snan. They suggested deploying a large number of officers in high-density areas to maintain order and prevent overcrowding. The administration has been asked to make crowd management a top priority and to ensure the availability of medical and emergency services at the Ghat.

The Uttar Pradesh government has also promised to take immediate action based on the recommendations of the judicial commission. Ensuring the safety of devotees and preventing any future incidents has become the government’s highest priority as the state prepares for upcoming religious events.
