New Delhi : Haryana is all set for its crucial single-phase assembly elections tomorrow, with all necessary arrangements in place. The elections will be held for the 90-member state assembly, where 1,031 candidates are vying for the coveted seats. Among the contestants, 930 are male and 101 are female, reflecting the continued gender imbalance in political representation. Notably, 464 candidates are running as independents, which adds an interesting dimension to the electoral battle, as independents have historically played a key role in Haryana politics.
Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal has assured that the state is fully prepared to conduct the elections smoothly and efficiently. The polling will commence at 7 AM and will continue until 6 PM, giving voters ample time to exercise their democratic rights. Voter turnout will be keenly watched, especially in a state where political dynamics are often complex and highly competitive.
The state has a robust electorate of more than 2 crore, 3 lakh, and 54 thousand eligible voters, with a mix of rural and urban voters, young and old, who will play a decisive role in shaping the future government. Several key constituencies in Haryana will witness high-profile battles, with major political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, and regional outfits such as the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) fighting for dominance.
In terms of logistical preparations, a total of 20,632 polling booths have been set up across the state to facilitate hassle-free voting. The Election Commission has also made provisions to ensure the safety and security of voters and election officials. Adequate security personnel, including central paramilitary forces and state police, have been deployed to maintain law and order, particularly in sensitive areas where tensions could arise.
The elections are being held under tight security and surveillance to prevent any untoward incidents. In addition to physical security measures, polling stations will be equipped with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines, ensuring transparency and minimizing chances of electoral fraud.
The outcome of this election will be critical for Haryana’s political landscape, as the ruling BJP aims to retain power amid challenges from a resurgent Congress and regional players like the JJP. The results will not only decide the next government but could also have wider implications for national politics, given Haryana’s strategic importance in the political calculus.
