K Kavitha Released from Tihar Jail After Five Months Following Supreme Court Bail Grant in Delhi Excise Policy Case

New Delhi : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha walked out of Tihar Jail on Tuesday night, just hours after the Supreme Court granted her bail in connection with the corruption and money laundering cases linked to the controversial Delhi excise policy. Kavitha, who had been held in Tihar’s Jail Number 6 for nearly five months, was greeted by a warm reception from her supporters as she exited the prison complex.

Kavitha’s legal saga began when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested her from her residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, on March 15. This arrest was followed by a further detention by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on April 11, while she was already in custody at Tihar. The CBI’s action came as part of its investigation into allegations related to the Delhi excise policy, which has involved multiple high-profile figures.

Throughout her detention, Kavitha has consistently denied all charges against her. She has maintained her innocence regarding the accusations of corruption and money laundering. The Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail reflects a significant development in the ongoing investigation, which has been marked by legal complexities and political ramifications.

Outside the prison, Kavitha was met with enthusiastic celebrations from BRS workers and supporters. The scene was one of jubilation, with drumbeats and fireworks marking her release. Her brother, K T Rama Rao, the working president of BRS, was present to welcome her, underscoring the political significance of her release.

Kavitha’s case has been a focal point in the broader context of the Delhi excise policy scandal, which has drawn considerable public and media attention. The policy, and the subsequent allegations against those involved, have had far-reaching implications for both the Delhi and Telangana political landscapes.

The bail granted to Kavitha allows her to address the charges from outside of jail, providing her with the opportunity to continue her political activities and respond to the allegations in a different setting. The ongoing legal proceedings will likely continue to draw significant attention as they progress, reflecting the high stakes involved for all parties.
