Ratnagiri : Maharashtra – In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread outrage, a 20-year-old nursing student was allegedly raped in Ratnagiri district while returning home from college in an autorickshaw. The assault took place against the backdrop of the ongoing agitation over the recent rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, which has already heightened public sensitivity and anger towards such crimes.

According to the reports, the nursing student, who is currently pursuing her studies in a local college, was traveling back home in an autorickshaw. During the journey, the driver reportedly offered her a bottle of water, which she accepted. Unbeknownst to her, the water was laced with sedatives. Shortly after consuming it, she lost consciousness.

Taking advantage of her condition, the driver drove to a secluded area where he allegedly raped her. When the young woman regained consciousness, she was disoriented and injured. Despite the trauma, she managed to contact her family, who immediately rushed to her aid and took her to a local hospital where she is now receiving treatment for her injuries.

This heinous act has ignited protests throughout Ratnagiri, with members of the nursing community, civilians, and hospital staff taking to the streets. The protesters have been blocking traffic in several parts of the city, demanding swift action against the perpetrator and justice for the survivor. The authorities have appealed for calm, assuring the public that they are making every effort to apprehend the suspect.

The local police have launched a manhunt for the autorickshaw driver, whose identity is yet to be confirmed. Investigators are currently analyzing CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses to gather more information about the suspect and his possible whereabouts.

Senior police officials have condemned the crime and assured the public of stringent action against the culprit. “We are leaving no stone unturned in our investigation. We understand the anger and fear this incident has caused, and we are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice,” a senior police officer told reporters.

In light of the incident, authorities have also urged women to be cautious while traveling alone and to report any suspicious behavior immediately. They are considering implementing additional safety measures for women traveling late at night, including increasing police patrolling and setting up more surveillance cameras in isolated areas.
