Andhra Pradesh CM Urges Upgrades in Government School Education

Vijayawada, August 13, 2024: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for improvements in government school education, emphasizing the need for higher quality and updated syllabuses. During a review meeting at the Secretariat in Amaravati on Tuesday, Naidu stressed that the Rs 32,000 crore annually spent on education should result in visible improvements.

Naidu directed officials to enhance school infrastructure and work closely with education experts to modernize the curriculum. He expressed concern over rising school dropout rates and urged officials to ensure that every child remains in school.

The Chief Minister also recommended that government schools compete with private institutions by adopting practices such as student identity registration in line with the Central government’s Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry. Additionally, he suggested holding parent meetings similar to those in private schools and promoting the use of Telugu alongside English.

In a presentation, education officials reported that Andhra Pradesh has 44,570 government schools and 813 aided schools, with a total of 70,22,060 students. Out of these, 35,13,533 are enrolled in government schools and 92,579 in private schools. The state has 1,87,996 teachers in government schools and 3,396 in aided schools.
