Jishnu Dev Varma Set to Assume Office as Telangana Governor

Former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister to be Sworn In on Wednesday Evening

Hyderabad, Jul 31 2024 : Jishnu Dev Varma, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, will be officially sworn in as the Governor of Telangana on Wednesday evening. The oath-taking ceremony will be conducted by High Court Chief Justice Alok Aarade.

Varma, who will become the fourth Governor of Telangana since the state’s formation, is expected to be welcomed by a host of dignitaries including Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, and opposition party leaders.

The Governor-designate is scheduled to arrive at Shamshabad Airport from Tripura this afternoon. State Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with Ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Ponnam Prabhakar, will be present to welcome him.

Jishnu Dev Varma’s appointment as the Governor of Telangana comes at the behest of the President of India, succeeding the interim Governor CP Radhakrishnan. Born on August 15, 1957, Varma hails from a royal family and is married with two sons. He has been associated with the BJP since the early 1990s and played an active role in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi movement. From 2018 to 2023, he served as Tripura’s Deputy Chief Minister and also held the position of President of the Tripura Badminton Association.
