Delhi High Court has criticized the “freebie culture” following the tragic deaths at a coaching center and has summoned the MCD Commissioner

The Delhi High Court has instructed authorities to clear all encroachments on the drains in the Rajinder Nagar area by Friday. This directive comes in the wake of a critical incident on July 27, when basement flooding in the area led to the deaths of three civil services aspirants. On Wednesday, the court voiced strong criticism of the Delhi government’s “freebie” policies, suggesting that such policies might have contributed to inadequate infrastructure management and regulatory oversight.

The court has also summoned the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), and the investigating officer to appear before it on Friday. This is to ensure that the authorities address the issues promptly and to investigate the systemic failures that led to the flooding and subsequent fatalities. The court’s actions underscore its concern about the broader implications of policy decisions on public safety and infrastructure.
