Special campaign to be run for road repair in Haryana

487 roads of HSAMB and 843 roads of the Public Works Department will be taken up for repair

New Delhi, June 6, 2024 : In a significant move, the Haryana Government has decided to run a special campaign in the State for repair of roads of the Public Works Department and Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB).

A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, Sh Nayab Singh at Chandigarh today. An amount of Rs 1636 crore was also approved for this purpose.


The meeting was also attended by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Sh. Kanwar Pal and Public Works (Buildings and Roads) Minister, Dr. Banwari Lal.

It was highlighted during the meeting that the repair of state highways and major district roads will be prioritized, with an aim to complete approximately 1500 works by September. Notably, the tender process for some of these roads has already been completed. The HSAMB has identified 384 roads across 17 districts, covering a total length of about 1100 kilometers.

Furthermore, it was disclosed in the meeting that out of the 439 roads, spanning 5200 km, earmarked for transfer by HSAMB, roads having length of 3000 km were successfully transferred last year. The Board will now concentrate on repairing these roads before transferring them to the Public Works Department.

The Board has decided that future road transfers to the Public Works Department will only proceed after a thorough demarcation. The Public Works Department will undertake patchwork repairs on 3500 km of roads before the onset of the monsoon season.


It was also decided in the meeting that the commencement of soil filling and the construction of kutcha roads will begin immediately on roads and bypasses where 80 to 85 percent of the land has been available. Apart from this, the construction work on the Kosli bypass will commence shortly.

Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Sh. Rajesh Khullar, Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works Department, Sh Anurag Rastogi, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Sh Ankur Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest and Environment Department, Sh Anand Mohan Sharan, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Smt. Ashima Brar, Chief Administrator, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board, Sh. Mukesh Kumar Ahuja, and senior officers of Public Works Department were also present in the meeting.
