T20 World Cup: India beats USA by 7 wickets to progress to Super Eight round

India defeated USA by seven wickets in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Cricket at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York last night. The win secured India a place in the Super 8 with one game less in Group A. Batting first, USA’s Arshdeep Singh took four wickets in a beautiful spell to score 110. Chasing a target of 111, India got off to a terrible start when left-handed pacer Saurabh Netravalkar dismissed Virat Kohli for a golden duck and Rohit for three runs in successive overs. But a magnificent half-century from Surya Kumar Yadav and his partnership with Shivam Dube led India to a hard-fought victory. In other matches, hosts West Indies defeated New Zealand by 13 runs at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad today. With this win, West Indies also qualified for the Super 8s. West Indies batted first and scored 149 runs for 9 in 20 overs. Sharfan Rutherford remained unbeaten with 68 off 39 balls. Trent Boult took three wickets for the Kiwis. Chasing 150, New Zealand could only manage 136 for nine in the required 20 overs. Alzarri Joseph with four wickets and Gudakesh Mottier with three wickets helped the hosts progress to the Super 8. Later in the day, Bangladesh will face the Netherlands at the Arnos Beir Ground in Kingstown, West Indies.
