Australian Star David Warner Hits T20 Landmark with 13,000 Runs

Australian opener David Warner made a powerful statement at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Monday night, ending a string of low scores with a gritty half-century that not only rescued the Karachi Kings in a tense chase against Peshawar Zalmi but also saw him reach a major milestone — 13,000 runs in T20 cricket.

Playing at the National Stadium in Karachi, Warner steered his side through troubled waters on a tricky surface after the hosts found themselves reeling with three wickets lost in the powerplay. Demonstrating experience and composure, Warner played the anchor’s role to perfection, forging crucial partnerships with Irfan Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Khushdil Shah.

Warner brought up his first PSL half-century off 39 deliveries and went on to score 60 runs off 47 balls, his knock laced with five boundaries and one six. His innings was eventually cut short by Luke Wood, who used the surface cleverly, delivering a well-disguised slower ball that gripped and induced a mistimed shot.

Despite his dismissal, Warner’s knock ensured the foundation was solid, and the Karachi Kings held their nerve to seal a low-scoring thriller, giving the home crowd a perfect send-off in their final home leg match of the season.

The innings was significant not only for the context of the game but for Warner personally. During this match, he became the sixth player in history to cross 13,000 runs in T20 cricket, an elite club that includes legends like Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, Kieron Pollard, Shoaib Malik, and David Miller. Warner reached the milestone in his 403rd T20 innings, making him the third-fastest to achieve the feat behind Gayle (381 innings) and Kohli (386 innings).

This landmark cements Warner’s place as one of the most consistent and impactful batters in the shortest format of the game. Known for his aggressive stroke play and match-winning abilities, Warner’s T20 journey has spanned franchise leagues around the globe — including the IPL, BBL, The Hundred, and now PSL — in addition to international cricket.
