New Delhi : In the IPL T20, Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last night. Chasing a modest target of 156 set by Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings rode on a match-winning unbeaten 65 by Rachin Ravindra and a fiery 53 by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad to seal the win in 19.1 overs.
Mumbai Indians faced a dismal start as Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a four-ball duck by Khaleel Ahmed. The struggles continued with the quick dismissals of Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks, putting Mumbai under pressure. Stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav (29) and Tilak Varma (31) attempted to stabilize the innings with a crucial 51-run partnership. However, the turning point came when debutant Noor Ahmad dismantled Mumbai’s middle order with his mystery spin, taking 4 wickets for just 18 runs. Khaleel Ahmed also shone with the ball, picking up 3 wickets for 29 runs. A late cameo from Deepak Chahar, who remained unbeaten on 28 off 15 balls, helped Mumbai Indians reach a somewhat competitive score of 155 for 9.
Chennai Super Kings’ chase was anchored by Rachin Ravindra’s unbeaten 65, complemented by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 53. Despite losing a few wickets, CSK comfortably reached the target in 19.1 overs. For Mumbai Indians, Vignesh Puthur took three wickets, while Deepak Chahar and Will Jacks claimed one each. Noor Ahmad’s brilliant bowling performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Earlier in another match, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Invited to bat first, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a mammoth total of 286 for 6 in their 20 overs, thanks to an unbeaten quick-fire century by Ishan Kishan. Travis Head also contributed significantly with 67 runs. For Rajasthan Royals, Tushar Deshpande took three wickets, while Maheesh Theekshana grabbed two.
In response, Rajasthan Royals put up a fighting effort but could only manage 242 for 6 in 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel top-scored with 70, followed by Sanju Samson with 66. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Simarjeet Singh and Harshal Patel took two wickets each. Ishan Kishan was awarded the Player of the Match for his explosive batting performance.
