Paris, August 8, 2024: Aman Sehrawat, a freestyle wrestler hailing from Birohad village in Jhajjar district, Haryana, has reached the semi-finals in the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris. Representing India in the 57 kg weight category, Sehrawat showcased his prowess by winning his initial match 10-0, followed by a dominant 12-0 victory against Abakarov in the quarter-finals.
Sehrawat’s success has brought immense joy to his village, Birohad, where the atmosphere is celebratory. His family and villagers are organizing religious ceremonies at Baba Raghunath temple, with arrangements to watch his matches on TV at the village’s main bus stand and in a house in the fields.
Born in 2003, Aman Sehrawat’s journey to the Olympics is inspiring. Despite losing his parents, Kamlesh in 2013 and Somvar Sehrawat in 2014, Aman’s determination remained unwavering. Raised by his uncles and grandfather in a humble farming family with just two and a half acres of land, Aman’s dedication to wrestling began at a young age. Aman’s achievements are notable. He won his first title at the national championship in 2021 and has since secured multiple gold medals: in the Under-17 Freestyle 2022 in Kyrgyzstan, Ranking Series in Almaty, Khelo India Youth Games 2019, 2018 championship in Manama 2022, and Asian Championship 2019. In 2023, he clinched gold at the Asian Wrestling Championship in Kazakhstan, and earlier this year, he won gold in the Men’s 57 kg event at the Open Wrestling Tournament.
The village of Birohad stands united in support of their local hero, hoping for his continued success in the semi-finals. Aman Sehrawat’s remarkable journey is a testament to his resilience and the support of his family, including his grandfather Mangeram and uncles Sudhir, Jaiveer, Ranveer, Karmveer, and Ved Prakash. The nation’s eyes are now firmly on Aman Sehrawat as he aims for Olympic glory.
