New Delhi, July 20, 2025 :Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has launched a sharp attack against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of electoral rolls being conducted in Bihar, alleging that it compromises the fairness of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Singh stated, “If SIR is not stopped, then the Bihar elections have no meaning. I can tell you the result now — if SIR continues, BJP will win the Bihar elections.”
His remarks come ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where 24 opposition members of the INDIA bloc have decided to raise issues such as the Pahalgam terror attack, the SIR in Bihar, and allegations of voter list manipulation.
Interestingly, Singh reiterated that the AAP is no longer part of the INDIA alliance after the conclusion of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. While AAP and Congress had jointly contested seats in Delhi under the INDIA banner, they went solo in Haryana and for the Delhi Assembly polls.
“The INDIA alliance was limited to the Lok Sabha elections. In Parliament, we have always opposed the wrong policies of the central government. Our present focus is on how the homes and shops of people from Bihar, UP, and Purvanchal are being bulldozed in Delhi,” Singh added.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission said on Friday that 95.92% of Bihar’s electors have been covered in the draft list under the SIR. Of the 7.89 crore registered electors (as of June 24), more than 7.57 crore have been accounted for. Just over 32.23 lakh names (4.08%) remain under verification, with the final draft to be published on August 1, 2025.
According to the EC, nearly 1 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 4 lakh volunteers, and 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) are working collaboratively to ensure that no eligible voter is left out.
Despite this, opposition parties — including Congress, RJD, TMC, Shiv Sena (UBT), and DMK — have expressed alarm. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari described the current situation in Bihar as akin to an “undeclared emergency,” citing fears of systematic voter exclusion.
During a virtual INDIA bloc meeting on Saturday, senior leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Tejashwi Yadav, and Uddhav Thackeray echoed these concerns and prioritized the issue in their joint agenda for the monsoon session.
