Gurugram, May 7 – A large-scale civil defense mock drill was conducted across multiple locations in Gurugram on Wednesday afternoon under “Operation Abhyas” to assess public preparedness and safety during emergency situations, particularly in the event of an air raid.
The drill began at 4PM with a siren alert, prompting immediate awareness and caution among the public. Key sites included Ambience Mall, Government School (Sector 4/7), Salwan School (Sector 15), Hero MotoCorp, and Garhi Bazidpur, where coordinated evacuation and rescue simulations were held.
Led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Ajay Kumar, and supported by Commissioner of Police Vikas Arora, the exercise involved police, fire services, health workers, civil defense volunteers, Red Cross, SDRF teams, NCC cadets, and disaster response personnel.
A control room was set up at the Mini Secretariat to monitor all activities in real-time. Staging areas like Tau Devi Lal Stadium received instructions, after which emergency response teams equipped with necessary resources were deployed to the designated sites.
During the drill, individuals on upper floors were safely rescued and transported to nearby hospitals. Awareness was also raised among the public regarding air raid precautions such as identifying safe interior shelters, switching off lights, conducting family drills, and reaching safety zones within 1–2 minutes.
From 7:50 PM to 8:00 PM, a simulated blackout was observed district-wide as part of the air strike preparedness exercise, with significant cooperation from the public.
DC Ajay Kumar emphasized that the aim of the mock drill was to test and strengthen emergency response systems, reduce panic during crises, and prepare citizens for potential disaster scenarios. The initiative is part of a nationwide civil defense campaign led by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
A review meeting was also held by DC Ajay Kumar and CP Vikas Arora with stakeholders to evaluate response measures and preparedness.
