Towards a Cleaner Gurugram: Chief Secretary’s Focus on Citizen Participation and Official Accountability

Gurugram, June 17, 2024- Haryana’s Chief Secretary, T.V.S.N. Prasad, today outlined the government’s comprehensive plan to transform Gurugram into the most beautiful city in Asia. The government, with the active participation of the district administration, the municipal corporation, and the public, is developing a detailed blueprint to achieve this vision.
Speaking at a press conference here today, Prasad also emphasized the ongoing special cleanliness campaign in Gurugram’s urban areas, underscoring the importance of respecting and protecting sanitation workers. To ensure the success of these initiatives, he said that HCS-level officials have been appointed as nodal officers in each ward. The government is committed to promptly addressing any resource and management needs required to maintain a clean environment in Gurugram. Prasad highlighted the administration’s focus on systemic improvements under the Disaster Management Act, ensuring thorough attention to all cleanliness aspects.
Prasad appealed to the public to actively participate in the cleanliness campaign led by the Municipal Corporation. He acknowledged that construction and demolition activities often lead to waste issues, causing inconvenience to the public. In response, a proper waste disposal system has been implemented, stressing the essential cooperation of the public.

A monitoring committee, chaired by the Gurugram Divisional Commissioner, has been established to oversee the cleanliness efforts and provide daily progress updates. Chief Secretary Prasad will personally review the steps taken for the cleanliness campaign every week.
Earlier, he held a review meeting with the municipal corporation officials on the plan to make Gurugram clean and the progress of sanitation works, and issued necessary instructions
During the meeting, nodal officers were instructed to ensure the presence of sanitation workers at designated locations in the wards at 7 AM and 2 PM daily. Officers were encouraged to work effectively in the cleanliness campaign, reflecting the government’s steadfast commitment to making Gurugram a clean city. Vikas Gupta, Commissioner and Secretary of the Urban Local Bodies Department, participated in the meeting virtually and assured compliance with the directives.

The meeting was attended by Gurugram Divisional Commissioner R.C. Bidhan, Director of Urban Local Bodies Department Dr. Yashpal, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Narhari Singh Bangar, DCP Deepak Gehlawat, Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Balpreet Singh, ADC Hitesh Kumar Meena, Addl. Director (Administration) of the Urban Local Bodies Department Y.S. Gupta, CEO ZP Jagnivas, and other officials of the monitoring team.
