New Delhi: In a significant action against organised crime, the Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a 31-year-old interstate criminal allegedly linked to multiple cases of attempt to murder, extortion and violations under the Arms Act.
The accused, identified as Ravi alias Sandeep, a resident of Dariyapur Kalan in outer Delhi, is said to be associated with the notorious Sonu Dariyapur gang. He had been declared a Proclaimed Offender in an extortion-related firing case registered at Bawana police station and was also wanted in several other cases across Delhi and Haryana.
Arrest in Najafgarh
Officials said specific intelligence inputs indicated that the accused was moving in the Najafgarh area. Acting on the information, a special team from the Western Range-II of the Crime Branch launched a coordinated operation involving surveillance and technical tracking. He was eventually apprehended from Mahesh Garden in Najafgarh.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officers of the Crime Branch.
Criminal Background
According to police, the accused studied up to Class 12 before allegedly drifting into criminal activities at a young age. His involvement initially began with minor offences but later escalated to serious crimes.
In 2018, he allegedly opened fire on a DJ operator during a wedding function. In another incident in Haryana’s Sonepat district, he is accused of firing at a government official following a family dispute. During his time in jail, he reportedly came into contact with gangster Sonu Dariyapur and later became an active member of the gang.
Police said that in 2019, at the alleged behest of the gang leader, he fired at a man in Bawana as part of an extortion bid, injuring the victim in the leg.
Multiple FIRs Registered
The accused faces several criminal cases, including charges under sections related to attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, extortion, robbery and offences under the Arms Act. Cases have been registered against him at police stations in Bawana and Begumpur in Delhi, as well as Kharkhoda in Haryana’s Sonepat district. In some of these matters, he had been declared a Proclaimed Offender and non-bailable warrants were also pending against him.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to examine his role in other criminal activities and to identify additional associates linked to the gang.
The arrest is being viewed as part of the Crime Branch’s continued efforts to curb gang-related violence and organised crime in the national capital and adjoining regions.
