Secretary, Railway Board Reviews Achievements of Special Campaign 5.0 Across Zones

Indian Railways Marks Major Progress in Cleanliness and Transparency Initiatives

NEW DELHI, October 30, 2025:Secretary, Railway Board, today reviewed the progress and key achievements of Special Campaign 5.0, being implemented across Indian Railways with the objective of promoting cleanliness, efficiency, and good governance. The campaign, launched earlier this month, has been undertaken under the broader initiative of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), focusing on institutionalizing cleanliness and improving service delivery in public offices.

During the review meeting, the Secretary emphasized that Indian Railways has made significant strides in ensuring swachhata (cleanliness), digital record management, and timely disposal of pending matters, including public grievances, VIP references, and parliamentary assurances. Senior officials from all Zonal Railways and Production Units joined the meeting through video conference to present updates on their respective progress.

As part of the campaign, Railways has carried out extensive cleanliness drives at stations, colonies, workshops, and offices, focusing on sustainable waste management and the elimination of obsolete records and materials. Several divisions have also adopted innovative practices such as recycling waste, beautifying station premises with local art, and converting scrap material into utility items, reflecting a holistic approach towards environmental stewardship.

The review highlighted measurable outcomes achieved so far under Special Campaign 5.0, including the disposal of thousands of physical files, the reduction of pendency in public grievances, and improved office space utilization through record digitization. The Secretary lauded the efforts of field units and encouraged them to maintain momentum throughout the campaign period.

Special attention has also been given to improving passenger amenities, with cleanliness inspections conducted at major railway stations, rest houses, and canteens. The Railway Board has directed all zones to ensure that the results of the campaign translate into long-term improvements in service delivery and workplace efficiency.

The Secretary reiterated that the success of the campaign depends on sustained commitment at every level and urged all railway personnel to make “cleanliness and efficiency a continuous process rather than a one-time exercise.”

The Special Campaign 5.0, which runs through the month of October, aims to embed the principles of transparency, accountability, and public service excellence across all departments of Indian Railways.
