New Delhi- President of India Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Param Vir Dirgha at Rashtrapati Bhavan on December 16, 2025, marking the occasion of Vijay Diwas.
The newly unveiled gallery showcases portraits of all 21 recipients of the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honour. Designed as a space of remembrance and learning, the gallery highlights the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve shown by these national heroes in the defence of the country. It also serves as a tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives in service of the nation.
The corridors housing the Param Vir Dirgha earlier featured portraits of British Aides-de-Camp. Replacing them with images of India’s own war heroes reflects a conscious move away from colonial symbols and reinforces pride in India’s heritage, values, and martial traditions.
The Param Vir Chakra is awarded for the most exceptional acts of bravery and self-sacrifice displayed by members of the armed forces during wartime, and the new gallery stands as a lasting reminder of their supreme sacrifice.
