DC Dr. Harish Kumar Vashisth Inspects Yamuna Embankments, Issues Flood Preparedness Directions

Palwal- Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar Vashisth on Monday carried out an inspection of villages situated along the Yamuna river in view of the rising water levels. Accompanied by senior officials, the Deputy Commissioner directed that all embankments along the riverbanks be strengthened with soil and reinforced to ensure that no floodwaters enter nearby habitations. He also instructed sarpanches to carry out regular announcements in villages to keep residents alert and informed.

During his visit, Dr. Vashisth inspected the Yamuna bridge at Mohna and villages including Bagpur, Dostpur, Rajupur Khadar, Thanthri, and Gurwadi. He emphasized the immediate removal of illegal encroachments along embankments and held discussions with sarpanches and prominent villagers to review preparedness. The Deputy Commissioner further advised that families living in low-lying areas should be shifted to safer locations in advance, and villagers should keep essential food and supplies ready to avoid inconvenience in case of emergencies. He also appealed to residents not to tether their cattle along the riverbanks.

 

Dr. Vashisth instructed that any issues should be reported promptly to the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) or at the flood control room helplines—Palwal: 01275-298160 and Hodal: 01275-235836. He also directed officials to construct soil-filled sack barriers wherever required and to take all necessary measures to strengthen flood defense systems. BDPO Naresh Kumar, Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Rohit Kumar, and other officials were present during the inspection

During his tour, the Deputy Commissioner also visited Chandhat village. At Chandhat Chowk on Aligarh Road, he instructed the construction of speed breakers on roads leading towards Chandhat and Misa villages to reduce the risk of accidents. He further inspected other road conditions in the area.

In Thanthri village, Dr. Vashisth visited the Government Senior Secondary School where he checked the mid-day meal arrangements and interacted with students. He listened to lessons in Class 3 and Class 5, encouraging the children during his visit. A Class 5 student, Priya, was rewarded with a cash prize for her excellent performance.

Later in Palwal city, the Deputy Commissioner inspected sanitation conditions along Aligarh Road. He directed officials to ensure proper cleaning of drains and removal of blockages. Stressing the importance of public participation, he said that a district-wide cleanliness campaign is being conducted under the guidance of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and appealed to residents to actively contribute to this initiative.
