Chandigarh, 8th, May, 2024- The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister, former President of Haryana Congress, in charge of Uttarakhand, and Congress (India Alliance) candidate from Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency Kumari Selja said that the Bjp government has been cruel towards farmers from the beginning, the farmers’ agitation is ongoing but the government does not have time to talk to them. The first thing to be done when the Congress government is formed is to give legal status to MSP and waive off all the debt of farmers. The NDAA government has caused a lot of harm to women by discriminating against them. When the Congress government is formed, effective steps will be taken to eliminate discrimination against women and to preserve their rights. Kumari Selja visited several villages in the Narwana Assembly constituency on Wednesday. She was warmly welcomed at various places.
Kumari Selja Addressing a meeting in Narayan Ganj village, said that the plight of the country’s farmers is no secret, the mental, economic, and physical exploitation of the country’s food providers is happening, farmers have been agitating for the past two years, about 700 farmers have been martyred in this agitation but the government is not relenting, the government is repeatedly rubbing salt on their wounds. The situation is such that farmers do not get the fair and profitable price of their produce, nor do producers have adequate means to market their produce. Export controls have weakened farmers. The condition of agricultural laborers is even worse. Selja said that Congress is the only party that has paid attention to the call of farmers and agricultural laborers during times of crisis and Congress is committed to making every possible effort to alleviate their pain and make agriculture an attractive livelihood. Congress will provide legal guarantee to the minimum support price announced by the government as per the recommendation of the Swaminathan Commission.
She said that when the Congress government is formed, the MSP will be directly deposited digitally into the bank account of the farmer. Congress will appoint a permanent commission on agricultural finance which will report on the need for time-bound agriculture loan limits and loan relief from time to time. Crop insurance will be made tailored to the needs of the field and the farmer. Premiums will be taken from farmers according to the insured amount and all claims will be settled within 30 days. Congress will revitalize the agricultural extension services system to disseminate optimal knowledge and practices to every agricultural land. Congress will increase the number of agricultural science centers and appoint more scientists at each center. Congress will start a major program to install solar panels connected to tube wells to generate energy. Selja said that income and opportunity inequality has become the bitter truth of the country. It is the moral and political responsibility of any government to ensure a fixed income for every Indian family every month. Congress has resolved to start a Mahalaxmi scheme to provide one lakh rupees per year unconditionally to every poor Indian family as a direct cash transfer. This amount will be transferred directly to the bank account of the eldest woman of the house. If the eldest woman is not present, it will be transferred to the account of the eldest member of the family. The scheme will be started in phases and will be reviewed every year to assess its impact on the number of beneficiary families and poverty alleviation. Congress is committed to eliminating discrimination against women and preserving and advancing women’s rights. Congress will ensure more appointments of women to high positions such as judges, government secretaries, senior police officers, legal officers, and board directors.
All laws will be reviewed for gender discrimination and prejudice. In the first year of the Congress government, offensive provisions will be removed or amended. Women’s labor participation rate is 25 percent. Congress will expand women’s participation in the workforce by measures such as fair and equal pay; secure workplaces; childcare services; preventing sexual harassment and violence; and expanding maternity benefits. Congress will establish a network of hostels for students and working women in collaboration with state governments. Congress will appoint a legal friend as a right of education in every panchayat to educate women about their rights and assist them in obtaining legal rights. During this program, former Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala, former Minister Atar Singh Saini, Poonam Rani, etc were present.
