New Delhi, May 30: The Department of Posts today honoured the outstanding contributions of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) by felicitating top performers for their exemplary service during the financial year 2024–25. Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia personally interacted with the GDS participants at a special event held in New Delhi. Senior officials from the Department of Posts were also present.
A total of 33 Gramin Dak Sevaks from all 23 Postal Circles across India were selected to attend the event, representing the dedication and reach of India Post in the country’s rural landscape. The interactive session provided an opportunity for the Minister to acknowledge their service and for the GDS to share field experiences and offer suggestions for further improvement.
Shri Scindia praised the GDS for being the backbone of India’s rural postal network. He highlighted the critical role they play in delivering postal and financial services at the grassroots level. “A Gramin Dak Sevak is trusted by every villager and is closely connected with each household. This deep bond makes them not only service providers but also integral members of rural communities,” the Minister said.
Drawing an emotional parallel, he added, “Just as a village watchman is not only responsible for security but also shares a personal connection with every family, the Gramin Dak Sevak similarly builds a strong, heartfelt relationship with every home he serves.” He further remarked, “Through my Gramin Dak Sevaks, the spirit of ‘Dak Sewa, Jan Sewa’ is truly being awakened.”
During the event, GDS personnel shared their stories from the field—highlighting both challenges and moments of inspiration—underscoring their pivotal role in connecting remote villages to the national communication and financial network. Their inputs also offered valuable insights into improving service delivery and operational efficiency.
The event concluded with the Minister reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the support systems for GDS and enhancing their role in rural development and nation-building.
