New Delhi, May 29 — The Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) held an induction programme on May 28 at its National Headquarters in New Delhi, welcoming a 24-member delegation from the Bhutan Scouts Association. The Bhutanese team is currently in India as part of an educational programme.
The delegation was accompanied by Lt. Yashodhara Raj, Associate Professor, Associate NCC Officer, and Assistant Director of the Industry Integration & Knowledge Exchange Cell at Sharda University, who is mentoring the group during their visit.
The induction programme began with a general salute, the BSG prayer, and the Bhutan Scouts’ prayer. Shri Amar B. Chettri, Executive Director, BSG, welcomed the delegation, introduced the NHQ staff, and invited the Bhutanese members to introduce themselves. Ms. Darshana Pawaskar, Director of BSG, presented the BSG scarf to Lt. Raj and later to other members of the delegation.
Shri Arup Sarkar, Deputy Director (Boy Programme), briefed the delegation on the history and mission of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, highlighting its founding in 1909 and the unification of the movement under the BSG banner. He also noted the organization’s recognition through various prestigious national awards.
During their introduction, the Bhutan Scouts expressed their appreciation for India’s role in supporting Bhutan’s scouting journey and acknowledged the longstanding friendship between the two national movements. Shri Prassanna Shrivastava, Special Director, SOCNC and Director, Organizational Development, Asia-Pacific Region of the World Scout Bureau, commended the Bhutanese team for their dedication. He recalled the early years of scouting in Bhutan between 1994 and 1999 and praised the team’s continued involvement in training courses and events across India.
The delegation toured BSG’s headquarters, explored various departments, and visited the equipment shop where they purchased literature, uniforms, and souvenirs. A video presentation showcasing the Trichy Jamboree in Tamil Nadu was also screened for the guests.
The visit concluded with a ceremonial exchange of mementos. Ms. Darshana Pawaskar presented official BSG mementos to the Bhutan Scouts Association and Sharda University, and the Bhutanese delegation reciprocated with their own tokens of appreciation.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Pawaskar expressed optimism about the growing ties between the two countries through scouting and guiding. She assured continued support for Bhutan’s participation in upcoming jamborees and announced an increased quota for Bhutanese participants in future events. The programme concluded with a group photograph and a vote of thanks.
