New Delhi : India carried out air strikes on nine terrorist hideouts in the early hours of May 7, under a mission code-named ‘Operation Sindoor’. This high-precision, post-midnight strike was a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, and is being hailed as a coordinated show of military strength and strategic clarity.
According to official sources, four targets were located in Pakistan, while five were in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The strikes were aimed at terrorist infrastructure used as launchpads for attacks on Indian soil, many of which were directly linked to the recent Pahalgam massacre that killed 26 civilians, including a Nepali national.
The operation, backed by actionable intelligence from India’s premier agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), was executed with pinpoint accuracy, targeting only terrorist facilities without escalating the situation with Pakistan’s regular military.
The Ministry of Defence has clarified that the operation was focused, restrained, and non-escalatory, emphasizing that no Pakistani military installations were hit, thus underlining India’s intent to strike at terror without triggering open conflict.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also shared her sentiments in Hindi:
“हमारी सेना पर हमें गर्व है। हमारे वीर सैनिक हमारी स्वतंत्रता और अखंडता की रक्षा करते हैं। भगवान उन्हें सुरक्षा दे और हर चुनौती का धैर्य और बहादुरी से सामना करने की शक्ति दे। जय हिंद।”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed similar views, saying in a statement:
“This is a strong message to the enemies of India. We salute the courage and precision of our armed forces. The entire nation stands with them.”
The name ‘Sindoor’ has symbolic resonance. It refers to the red vermilion worn by married Hindu women and draws a direct emotional connection to the Pahalgam attack, where several men were executed in front of their wives. One of the terrorists had told a woman to “Go, tell Modi,” after shooting her husband—making the retaliatory strike all the more powerful in the public’s perception.
The Indian government has said a detailed media briefing will be held later today to share more about the planning, execution, and outcomes of Operation Sindoor.
