New Delhi : In a major counter-terror operation, the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ post-midnight, striking nine identified terrorist infrastructure sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation comes in the wake of the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian civilians and one Nepali national.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed the development early Tuesday, stating that the action was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory” in nature. According to the Ministry, no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, reflecting India’s intent to neutralize terror infrastructure without provoking a broader military escalation.
“India has demonstrated considerable restraint in both the selection of targets and the method of execution,” the official statement said. The operation was designed to send a strong message that those orchestrating attacks on Indian soil will face consequences.
All nine targets struck under Operation Sindoor were reportedly linked to terrorist groups operating from across the Line of Control, and had been identified as launch pads or logistical hubs used for planning and executing attacks inside India. Preliminary reports suggest precision-guided munitions and coordinated aerial support were used to ensure minimal collateral damage.
Sources have revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally monitored the entire operation through the night, in constant communication with senior defence and security officials. The Prime Minister was kept apprised of mission progress in real time, underscoring the high-level political and strategic oversight behind the operation.
This response follows mounting domestic pressure and public outrage after the Pahalgam incident, where unarmed civilians were targeted in a heinous act of terrorism. The government had vowed swift and decisive action, with the Prime Minister earlier stating that “those responsible will not be spared.”
The Ministry of Defence has announced that a detailed media briefing will be held later today to share more information on the objectives, outcomes, and strategic implications of Operation Sindoor.
