Patna : In a major push towards infrastructural development and grassroots empowerment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated, laid the foundation stone, and dedicated to the nation projects worth over ₹13,480 crore during his visit to Bihar. The Prime Minister’s visit coincided with National Panchayati Raj Day, and he also presented the National Panchayat Awards to recognise exemplary performance by Panchayats across the country.
The event, held in Madhubani district, witnessed the Prime Minister launching a slew of railway projects aimed at enhancing connectivity in the region. Railway initiatives alone accounted for ₹870 crore. Among the key highlights was the virtual flagging off of four train services, including the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail between Jaynagar and Patna, and the Amrit Bharat Express running between Saharsa and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai.
This is the second Namo Bharat train to be launched in the country, aimed at offering faster and more efficient regional connectivity. The Amrit Bharat Express, meanwhile, is part of a new fleet of trains intended to offer affordable long-distance travel with improved passenger amenities. Two other passenger trains, from Saharsa to Pipra and Samastipur to Saharsa, were also flagged off.
In addition to train services, PM Modi also dedicated several critical railway lines to the nation, including the new tracks between Supaul and Pipra, Hasanpur and Bithan, and Khagaria and Alauli. These projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity in North Bihar, helping bridge transport gaps in rural and semi-urban areas.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, especially in rural India, and underlined the role of Panchayats in strengthening democracy at the grassroots level. He hailed the awarded Panchayats for their contribution to sanitation, education, water management, and digital governance.
Highlighting the synergy between improved connectivity and Panchayat-led governance, PM Modi said the projects would empower local communities, improve livelihood opportunities, and boost economic activities in the region.
