Manish Tewari Questions Government Over Cash Recovery from Delhi HC Judge’s House

New Delhi : Congress MP Manish Tewari has called for a statement from the Union Law Minister in the Lok Sabha regarding the recovery of a substantial amount of cash from the residence of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Varma. Addressing the media outside Parliament, Tewari stated that the incident has raised serious concerns among the judicial and legal fraternity, as well as citizens across the country.

Tewari emphasized that the issue is not just about an individual case but about the integrity of the judiciary as a whole. He highlighted that the Constitution of India clearly outlines procedures for judicial oversight and accountability, and any allegations or suspicions related to members of the judiciary must be dealt with transparently. He urged the government to clarify the circumstances surrounding the cash recovery and what steps are being taken to uphold the credibility of the judicial system.

The Congress MP also pointed out that such incidents could erode public trust in the judiciary, which is one of the key pillars of democracy. “The judiciary is meant to be independent and free from any kind of influence or corruption. If a sitting judge’s residence is raided and cash is found, the government owes the nation an explanation,” he said.

The opposition has been pressing for more transparency in the matter, calling for an impartial investigation into the source of the cash and whether any misconduct was involved. Legal experts and former judges have also weighed in, stating that the incident could have far-reaching implications for the perception of judicial integrity in India.

Meanwhile, the government has yet to respond officially to Tewari’s demand. It remains to be seen whether the Law Minister will issue a statement in Parliament or if the matter will be taken up for further discussion. The controversy continues to unfold as political parties and legal experts debate the potential impact of the revelations on India’s judicial system.

The cash recovery from Justice Yashwant Varma’s residence has sparked a larger conversation about judicial accountability and the mechanisms in place to ensure transparency in the higher judiciary.
