Prayagraj : The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began in January, is set to conclude on February 26, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Mahashivaratri. The grand religious gathering, held every twelve years, continues to attract millions of devotees, saints, and spiritual seekers from across India and beyond.
On Monday, President Droupadi Murmu visited the sacred site of Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and took a holy dip in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. The Triveni Sangam holds immense spiritual significance, as it is believed that a dip in these waters washes away sins and grants moksha (liberation).
Draped in a traditional white saree, President Murmu immersed herself in the sacred waters, performing the ritual with deep reverence. Accompanied by priests and officials, she also offered prayers while standing in the Sangam, marking a moment of profound spiritual connection. Vedic chants and religious hymns resonated in the background as she took part in the ritual, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions of the Maha Kumbh.
The Maha Kumbh Mela is regarded as the largest religious congregation in the world, drawing millions of pilgrims, ascetics, and religious leaders. President Murmu’s visit highlights the cultural and spiritual importance of the event and reinforces the significance of India’s religious traditions at a global level. Her participation also underscores the role of women in preserving and celebrating India’s rich spiritual heritage.
Apart from taking the holy dip, President Murmu also interacted with devotees and saints at the venue. She was welcomed with traditional rituals, and priests bestowed sacred blessings upon her. Security arrangements were significantly heightened to ensure smooth proceedings, as thousands of people thronged the Sangam to witness the President’s visit.
Following her prayers, the President expressed her reverence for the occasion and emphasized the importance of faith, unity, and the preservation of India’s spiritual and cultural legacy. She appreciated the efforts taken by the Uttar Pradesh government and administration to manage such a massive gathering efficiently.
As the Maha Kumbh 2025 progresses towards its grand conclusion, the President’s participation adds a moment of national significance to the event.
